I arrived in quito with some trepidation as it was the first stop on a round the world trip. I arrived not speaking a word of spanish and checked myself into Spanish school, and got to know the city a bit better. I had also been nervous because Guagua Pichincha, the volcano 9km outside of town had been rumbling away for a little while...See my travelogue for photos of when it finally went off! I became very fond of Quito during my time there, it is touristy in places (the part of town where all the hostels are is nicknamed gringolandia), but it's good fun and a good place to lay up for a week or two and eat good food after the rigours of South American travel. |
