Swat Valley is located in the N.W.F.P Province to Pakistan. It is often called the "Mini-Switzerland" because of its beauty. Swat is famous for its forests and its mountains through which the fast moving Swat river passes. It is a wonderful place, one of the best places in Pakistan.There is everything here. Saidu Sharif is the administrative head-quarters of the Swat Valley while its twin town of Mingora is the largest city in Mingora. Bahrain is the point where the Swat River is really beautiful and gains velocity and becomes ferocious. Kalam, Malam Jabba and Miandam are the centres of stay for the tourists. There are good roads (upto Kalam) and nice hotels. There are also some very wonderful lakes like Lake Mahodand which are absolutely brimming with fish.
Kalam is the largest town in Upper Swat. Its famous for its high speed winds which blow during the day but it is completely calm during the night. This place is one of the windiest places in the world. The Swat River is really gushing through at a great pace just beside the town giving a great view. There are high green mountains surrounding the town and the views are just lovely. There are also good hotels and a very long bazaar with some cool hanging bridges over the river. Lots of lovely waterfalls nearby and several natural springs too.
Swat Valley is known as the valley of forests and springs. There are miles and miles of forests starting from Mingora up to the end of the Swat Valley. Lots of wonderful springs and waterfalls in the region especially near Kalam. Springs are called "Chashma" in the local language. There is also a, what is believed to be, the "Chashma of Healing" just before Lake Mahodand.

Everybody keeps comparing this page to Switzerland. In the interest of variety, and based on my US basing, I'll compare it more to Colorado! Beautiful.
