"I love this city. If I'm elected, I'll move the White House to San Francisco." --Robert Kennedy
When I was 12 years old, I lived in a small town in Nevada and had a weekend trip to San Francisco. I was totally sheltered living in a small tiny town in Nevada that had only one black family in town, and NO openly gay people. But as we were crossing the Bay Bridge I about pisssed my pants! I asked the teacher: Is this where all the black people live?
And at the Giants vs. The Cubs game, a group of transvestites sat next to us, by the end of the game I was sitting on their laps getting more love and attention then my family showed me in a year. I knew they were men, but so did they. I understood it. That teacher told then to bugger off however. And as they were about to leave I realized something was very wrong. What was wrong was that they were being chased off because they were different. I was confused as to what exactly was the problem.
The next day at the Amusement park Great American, I ran away and hid in the bathroom hoping they would leave me and I could go live with a nice Transvestite couple and live happily ever after.
When they found me they were frantic, and I was pisssed. I didn't say a word until I got home, and to this I told my parents off. I couldn't believe they made me live in Nevada, hide me away from this great city, and never tell me about it! And I swore when I could I would move there. |

| | $7 I moved here 12 years ago from San Diego with $7 in my pocket and a free place to live. I had one prior visit about a month before and that was it, I knew I had to live here. That first visit was a shocker I tell you. I remember feeling overwhelmed, intimidated, and not a cool as I thought I was.
But with in a week I had a job, a apartment and a boyfriend (not a good one, but one just the same).
I have a philosophy: Either “The City” (*** you New York, San Francisco can also be “The City” too) It either loves you and welcomes you, or it takes a *** on you, and you don’t make it a week. I have seen many people come here and turn around and leave. No job, no luck, no way. Others, like me, were given some golden key: and it has yet to let me down. |
Just us folks... never you mind. Seeing men with men, women with women, and women and men together makes total since to me. When I look out into a crowd of people, it’s just a bunch of people milling around. Now days, I feel very uncomfortable when I’m a large groups of the same type of people, I need gay folks, black folks, green and blue in order for me to feel relaxed and happy. Oh yah, and the fact this I live in this beautiful, pretty, classy, upbeat, wild city helps a bit too! | | | Your average good looking couple in San Francisco |
