The Raddisson: very swanky, however, not a TRUE Amsterdam experience. It was a huge hotel, in a great location. My room had a window that faced someones office window. Had to shut the blinds the whole week. HOWEVER, great mini bar... lots of drinking was done in my room, and not over priced. I was traveling alone at the time. It's location rocks. Right accross the cobble stone street is a deli and two "brown cafes".
Unique Qualities: The unique selling point of this deluxe hotel is the varied styles of bedrooms ranging from Scandinavian to Maritime to old Dutch. The hotel features Royal Club rooms which are business rooms only. The rooms are all in very good condition, as are the accompanying marble bathrooms. Restaurant The public areas include a brasserie which serves traditional Dutch specialities as well as deli-style sandwiches. There is also an excellent a la carte restaurant. Exterior The building has a modern exterior whereas the interior hosts a variety of styles, ranging from the 18th century to the style of the Far East. Lobby The lobby is fairly spacious with an atrium linking the roof of the modern building with the bar which used to be an 18th century vicarage. The lobby is beautifully decorated with candelabras, dark wood and leather furniture. General This is a lovely, centrally located hotel suitable for both groups and individuals. Please note that because of the narrow canal streets, it is necessary for the coach to drop guests off around the corner from the hotel. 12/02jg Bedrooms Total Number of Rooms: 243 - Single rooms - Double rooms - Twin rooms - Triple rooms - Non-smoking rooms Room Facilities Air conditioning Television Satellite television In-house movie Radio Direct dial phone Mini bar Hairdryer Trouser press Automatic wake-up call Voltage 220v Hotel Facilities Medium sized lobby Earliest check-in at 15:00 4 lifts Porterage 24 hour Rooms service 24 hour 6 floors Car parking Solarium Gymnasium Sauna Shop Car rental facilities Baby sitting Laundry facilities Disabled facilities

The Avenue Hotel ROCKS! A few friends went to Canabus Cup last year and got this cute little hotel at a great rate. It was just behind the pallace in Damn Square. Had this cool bar next to it. If your not picky, this is a fab place. However, it's a busy area, so it's for those who are going to party!
Unique Qualities: Rooms The rooms are also small and are decorated in either pink or apple green in modern style. They are not furnished with especially expensive materials, but they are comfortable. The bathrooms are small, simple and up-to-date and all are in good condition. Restaurant There is no restaurant apart from the breakfast room and this can be found on the ground floor. Exterior The exterior of this building is very traditional as it consists of typical Dutch townhouses which are all so familiar in Amsterdam city centre. Lobby The lobby is large with limited seating and there is also a small bar adjacent. It is all new and was recently refurbished in 2001. General This popular hotel is a good three star property which offers a reasonable level of comfort in a prime location. It was refurbished in 2001.jg/03/2003 Bedrooms Total Number of Rooms: 50 - Single rooms - Twin rooms - Triple rooms - Quad rooms Room Facilities Television Direct dial phone Hairdryer Voltage 220v Hotel Facilities Small sized lobby Earliest check-in at 14:00 1 lift Rooms service 24 hour 6 floors Coach parking Car rental facilities Baby sitting Laundry facilities

(Looks like the hotel is a Ramada owned Hotel now...) This hotel was about a 10-minute tram ride from Damn Square. However, this trip was my 4th trip so I was ready to branch out and see how the locals lived and played. Best decision I ever made I’ll tell you. The hotel was darling, and the location was supposed to be in the ritzy part of town. Right next-door was a bakery, next to that, a drugs store, next to that a grocery store. Perfect! The front desk gal was a kick in the pants! One day I asked her: “How’s it going?” to that she replied: “The bad are always doing good.” Ha! My room had 24hr porn. I called this trip, “The Vacation of 9 baths.” The tub was about 6 feet long, 2 feet deep and had hot water all the time. Every day I would smoke a joint and take a loooong bath. Remember to buy your tram tickets at the grocery store. (SEE TRANSPORTATION)
Unique Qualities: Rooms The comfortable bedrooms are mostly of medium size and stylishly decorated in neutral, contrasting colours with tasteful modern furniture. The bathrooms reflect equally the modern standard of the bedrooms. Restaurant Located on the ground floor, the restaurant serves breakfast only. There is also a coffee shop serving coffee and light snacks only. Exterior This building is part of a block dating back to the 1930's. Lobby The lobby is modern and small and has terracotta style floor tiles and a reception desk giving it a very attractive mediterranean feel. General This hotel is well located close to the heart of Amsterdam and is a good hotel for individual travellers and small groups. jg/102001 Bedrooms Total Number of Rooms: 51 - Single rooms - Double rooms - Twin rooms - Triple rooms Room Facilities Television Satellite television In-house movie Radio Direct dial phone Mini bar Hairdryer Automatic wake-up call Voltage 220v Hotel Facilities Small sized lobby Earliest check-in at 12:00 1 lift Porterage from 8:00 to 22:00 Room Service from 8:00 to 22:00 3 floors Coach parking Car parking Car rental facilities Baby sitting Laundry facilities

A group of us are going to be taking over this hotel November 19-26. 2005. I can't wait! Here is a "Site Inspection Report" done by a travel agent. When we get back I'll give the low down-word up. Independent Report Location This hotel is a stone's throw from the oldest part of Amsterdam and the Royal Palace and overlooking one of Amsterdams beautiful canals. Rooms The rooms vary in size from small to large due to the age of the building. They are modern but simple in style, although some still retain their original wooden beams which are typical of the buildings from this century. Along with the bathrooms, their condition is fair to good. A very small percentage have, however, been totally renovated in modern style, and are in very good condition. Restaurant The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but there is a breakfast room situated on the lower ground floor with natural daylight which can be used for groups. Exterior It is uniquely set in four 17th century houses right on the city's most prestigious canals. The facade is typical of this distinct style. Lobby In contrast to the traditional exterior, the small lobby is more modern, but there are still strong touches of tradition. This area also includes a cosy bar and comfortable lounge area. General This hotel is ideal for both groups and individuals wishing to experience the true character of old Amsterdam. However, please note that it is not possible for coaches to reach the entrance of the hotel so drop off will have to be in a nearby street. 04/04/jg
