Delft, Booze, Jazz and God

Please God Stop the Bells!

Center of Delft, The Museumhotel
After several trips to the Netherlands and only seeing Amsterdam, I pre-booked myself a weekend in Delft. The name "Delft" is synonymous with porcelain, and this town of 85,000 is justifiably famous for the blue-and-white pottery, so I thought that I would pick up an ashtray or something. (FYI: even the smallest little piece of pottery is aground $100USD!)

I took the tram from my hotel to Central Station, and took the 54-minute train to Delft. When I steped off the platform I took one look around and fell in love! To me it looked like what Amsterdam would have been 300 years ago. Very Medieval, small and gray stone and little canals everywhere.

Delft Jazz Fest

After checking into my hotel (and look at it under my hotel page) I went to the pub and drank and ate a little something. While I was chillen out, I noticed that outside was being set up for some sort of event. I asked the waitress and she informed me it was the yearly Jazz Festival! It was on the steps of the Cathedral, right across the street from my hotel. But I still think it’s weird that a rocken party with booze, smutty girls, and cussing was OK by the church. What ever. I drank, danced and sang until three in the morning.

The next day.... ouch.

The next morning the church bells gonged LOAUD starting at 8:00am, then I knew why the church let people party there, so it can slap you up early in the morning, while your holding your head praying to God to stop the damn bells!
Delft looking like Amsterdam or visa versa?

Pros:"It's one hour from Amsterdam"
Cons:"Can't think of one...."
In A Nutshell:"If you want to see the rest of the Netherlands, go to Delft"
