I was 21. I mean isn’t that reason enough? I had spent every single waking second with this guy for 3 weeks. I had had enough. I was in Athens. I hated him, I hated Athens, I hated the heat, and I needed a drink.
We pulled into that goddamn rail station in the middle of Athens and were greeted by these super fly gutter punks who in exchange for bringing people to this squat/hotel they could stay for free and sleep on the roof. They were the unfortunate ones who ran out of money and were stuck in Athens. This was my introduction, and I was not pleased. |
| | And out to into the streets of Athens we spilled. After the 3 minute walk from the train station we arrived at the hostel. It was a dump. Dump, dump, and dump. In one big room where mattresses were all pushed together like one big gross orgy style room. That did it! I wanted out of this right that second. I had stopped sleeping with said boyfriend ever since I realized that the hostels were boys in one-room girls in the other. This worked out fine with me, because I was sick of him. He wouldn’t leave me alone. He wouldn’t feed me, buy me things, and generally entertain me. We were on $5 a day. I was 21.
So I threw my bag down, turned to said boyfriend and said: “I want to break up. I want half the money, my plane tickets and I’ll see you in London in two weeks.” He started to cry, and just then someone came into the room. The looks on everyone’s faces were so sad. Except for me. This somehow made me even more annoyed. So I took off with said boyfriend crying behind me, and out to into the streets of Athens we spilled. |
Sitting on the lap of a beautiful man. He was pleading; I was walking faster and shouting at him to leave me alone you skinny little freak, I needed a drink and couldn’t seem to find a bar fast enough. Greek men were coming out of their homes saying things in Greek and waiving their fists. I didn’t realize what was going on for about three blocks. Then it hit me. They were yelling at me to stop yelling at a man like that. At that point I put a stop to said boyfriend and took off.
The only place I could go as a girl wanting a drink by herself, was to another hostel. So I found one and sat down and ordered an Amstel Lite (style). About 5 minutes into my drink a hottie came over and demanded that I sit with him and his friends. Well, to make a long story short, I was drunk, happy and sitting on the lap of a beautiful man. Just as this was getting interesting, said boyfriend walked in, quivering and desperate.
What did I do you ask? I got up, walked out with said boyfriend to our hostel and somehow fell asleep with 50 filthy backpackers. I was 21. And felt trapped in Europe with a guy who looked sick, held hostage on “Lets Go Europe” $5.00 a day.
Hostel: http://www.hostelaphrodite.com/ $17.00 a day. Rail: http://www.raileurope.com Youth Hostel Pass $664.00 Beer: $2.00 | | | They all looked like Joey Ramone. |
