The city of Arequipa is about 6000 or 7000 feet in the mountains. It is nestled in between three snow capped volcanos. Apparently there are over 70 active and dormant volcanoes in the Province of Arequipa.
Arequipa is beautiful, all cut volcanic stone. And the people in southern Peru seem richer than northern Peru. They also have a strong regional identity.
Old Arquipa is reminiscent of Old Quebec City. It is quite nice. Arequipa has wonderful architecture and it is clean and beautiful and the faucets and toilets sometimes work.
They have bull fights here on the weekend, and dog fights and cock fights too. |
