Out of Saigon - Cu Chi Tunnels: Cu chi tunnels
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Vietnamese have converted part of the tunnels used by the soldiers in the war into a tourist attraction. It is quite a long drive from Saigon but well worth a trip. When you first arrive you must sit through a presentation and film in Vietnamese which paints a very one sided view of the conflict. Interesting though. Once outside you walk across the street to the tunnels. The area is rigged with fake tripwires and land mines for your enjoyment.
    Wear insect repellent!

Out of Saigon - Cao Dai Temple: Cao Dai Temple
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you book a tour to Cu chi they usually include this as well.
The temple holds it's service around lunchtime and hundreds of tourists come along to watch from the upstairs balcony.
The worshippers are very colourful and not a bit fazed by the huge audience they have. Photography is allowed inside but some of the areas outside are cordoned off so good pics of the outside are difficult to get.

War Remnants Museum: War Remnants Museum
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is an interesting place to go. Outside there are some pieces of left over hardware that you can pose for photos by. Inside are some of the most disturbing and distressing photos I have ever seen. If you really want to know what a war can be like without experiencing it first hand this is the place.
The pictures are a very graphic way to demonstrate what war really is all about and should be compulsory viewing for all politicians worldwide.

    Reunification Palace: Reunification Palace
  • Tip Rating:
  • Splendid modern building built, I was told, to Feng Shui priciples. The rooms inside are well preserved and quite interesting. The view from the upper floors is excellent. The part I enjoyed most was the basement where the war cabinet were based . The maps on the walls kept me entertained for a very long time.
Loved the helicopter out back and the tanks on the front lawn!

    Chinatown: Very Old Pagoda
  • Tip Rating:
  • Situated in the cholon district this is a must see pagoda. The thien Hau Pagoda dates from the 19th century and is very active with worshipers today.
