  • This temple is stunning. It's shear size is amazing. Be prepared to spend a couple of hours here if you intend to have more than a cursory glance.
The temple is located to the west of Georgetown on a hill. It takes around 20 mins to get there by car. The temple is open from early morning until evening. Refreshments are available from stalls near the temple and the gift shop area inside.
See my travelog for more pictures of this place.

  • Wat Chayamangkalaram can be found on the road from georgetown towards Batu Ferringhi. It is a Thai temple, gaudily painted in Blues and Yellows. Inside is a 33 metre long reclining buddha image. Photography is not permitted inside the building.
    Admission is free (donations appreciated)
    Open early morning until sunset.

  • Just across the street from the thai temple is the Burmese temple. Less gaudily painted I liked this temple a lot.

Penang Hill (Bukit Bendera): Ride the Funicular tram
  • Tip Rating:
  • You must go to the top of Penang Hill to see the views over the island. It is also several degrees cooler up there than at sea level.
The easiest way to get up there is to ride the tram from the bottom. The ride takes a long time, about 30 mins, but is very enjoyable.
It costs only a few ringgit.
The hill is 821 metres high and has some nice gardens that you can wander around.
