I've been round to Fort William twice in my travels around Scotland. I have yet to get an unobstructed view of the peak of Ben Nevis! It's a great place if you like outdoors activites and even better if you like the challenge of hiking/climbing mountains!

I have not attempted to tackle the hike up Ben Nevis, however, some of my fondest memories of hiking in Scotland are of my walks in Glen Nevis. I should also add that climbers that are serious about hiking Ben Nevis should heed all the warnings and use good sense because it is true that people have died up there, I think mostly due to the rapidly changing weather conditions.

Anyways, the added bonus is that on the way to Glen Nevis you can stop off and see where parts of Braveheart were filmed. On the whole it's a nice (albeit a little touristy) town with loads of outdoors activites that I believe are best enjoyed in warmer weather (just beware of the midgies).
