Crescent Meadow, Sequoia Natl. Park |
I lived near the foothills of this area for nearly 20 years and loved to explore there. It is so beautiful and diverse. Recently, I was reminded of two charming, older British ladies that I met a couple of years ago. They were lost and looking for the highway that leads from Visalia to the gate of Sequoia National Park.
Upon further explanation of their plans, I realized that they had little idea of what "taking a few pictures of the big trees" and "driving to their hotel in Fresno before it got dark" might involve. Sunset was about an hour away, and the gate to the park itself was over an hour and a half from where we stood. Their tour provider's itinerary had grossly understated the time involved for this "side-excursion" and given no indication of what the road might be like.
I hope that in posting some tips here, I might spare someone else the disappointment I saw in the eyes of those two women that day.
I may be able to post some of my pictures soon. More importantly, I need to find them! :) I will keep adding as I think of things.
