Fort Tryon Park and The Cloisters: These are a few of my favourite things...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: The Cloisters, a museum dedicated to Medieval art, and part of the Met Museum. Entry is by donation, and you can use your ticket to get into the Met on the same day for no extra charge. It's not too far on the subway, near 175 st if I remember, but well worth it. Uncrowded when I visited it, quite serene, peaceful, and set in a wonderful location by the Hudson river. It houses the Unicorn tapestries.

Fondest Memory: My fondest memory is of all the Cosi nights me and my NY gang had. Cosi is a coffee place, like starbucks but perhaps less commercialised, with great food and FANTASTIC mint hot chocolates.
Apurva, always drunk, Ramon just being funny and Ken trying not to fall down at ice-skating.
I miss friends, the subway and the accessiblity of everything. You have it good in NY.

    General Tips: Street food
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Wherever you are in NY, you can always get a bagel and a cup of coffee from a street vendor. And that's why I love this city. Really cheap, but delicious, I really miss NY bagels now I can no longer get hold of them. There's now't like a cream cheese bagel.

Fondest Memory: Eating my cream cheese bagel and herbal tea at Grand Central Station, watching the world go by.

Great page, Sophie. You really captured YOUR NY experience, not the cookie-cutter NYC tourist traps. Great page and happy birthday!

Good tip about the forced donation at the natural history museum. What a weird way to raise money, isn't it? Either make it voluntary or charge regular admission. tsk, tsk.

You´re right bout the street vendors. Got some bagels, too, but preferred the hot dogs.
