On the Road in Portugal

by Canadienne - last update: Mar 15, 2003

Tomar, Portugal
My travels in Portugal took me from Lisbon to Guimaraes (birthplace of Afonso Henriques and of Portugal), then back down along the coast.

We travelled through Porto, Viseu, Coimbra, Leiria, Tomar, Sintra, East to Evora, and back to Lisbon before heading home.

Portugal is a fascinating country, with riches of castles, churches and museums. . .I'm surprised it isn't more heavily-travelled outside of Lisbon and the Southern Coast (but that worked in our favour). Excellent value for money everywhere we went.

In fact, Praça da Figueira is a nearby square. Rossio is also known as Praça D. Pedro IV. Greetings from Portugal
