Tsarskoe Selo

by Canadienne - last update: Aug 17, 2003

We combined a trip to Tsarkoe Selo with a visit to nearby Pavlovsk in one day. Tsarskoe Selo, still commonly referred to as Pushkin, is home to Catherine Palace & Park, one of the imperial estates surrounding St. Petersburg. Although a bit dull & staid inside, the exterior design of the palace and its sprawling grounds are beautiful.

The lesser-known Alexander Palace is also located within the town limits ~ it's a much smaller-scale property, with a very touching display of Romanov memorabilia.

For Pushkin fans, there are also some buildings connected to the much-loved poet.

The hint on transportation, though, won't be helpful for most, as the town can be easily accessed by public transportation by something like 50 cents and not 100 dollars!

Aleksander Sergeevish Pushkin has a city named after him, this Gorgeous Poet of love! I liked what you wrote dear Stevie, and didn't know before about Turkish baths in Russia, but knew about wild dogs LOL!

Must be lovely to wander around and get lost in those grounds. Looks like it was worth the side trip.
