Kiyomizu Temple: Kiyomizu Temple with great view
  • Tip Rating:
  • This thousand year old temple has multiple buildings to visit and lots of nice walking path around it.

The must see in the temple are:
    1) The Status of Kannon which is a famous icon;
    2) The sacred spring (Seems like everyone stops there!)
    3) The walk on the front of the temple which offer an awesome view of the surrounding mountains and the city.

See my travelogue for a walk through the temple area

Things To Do: Yasaka Pagoda (Gion District)
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • This 5 storey shrine is located at the site of an ancient budhist temple. It's a bit off street but worth the detour.

Gion (Geisha district): Gion district and stone paved roads
  • Tip Rating:
  • Kyoto Gion (Geisha district)
  • Stone paved roads

  • The Gion district is across the river from the main downtown. It's a beautiful well-preserved area which has kept the same atmosphere for a long time. There are numerous temples in that small area and the many stoned paved roads lined up with tiny inns, restaurants and shops.

Although it's supposed to be the Geisha district, I haven't seen many. This aspect is overrated.

    Things To Do: Ryozen Kannon
  • Tip Rating:
  • This big monument is dedicated to the war victims (WWII). The main Buddha is 80fr high, very impressive. There is a small display inside to visit.

There is a beautiful park around the monument.

  • In Gion district close to east end of Shijodori (main street), you will find this impressive shrine.

The shrine was created in year 656. The place is famous for the Cherry Blossom festival and the Gion Matsuri festival every July.

See my travelogue for more pictures of this beautiful place !
