Colorful Montreal

by ChuckG - last update: Oct 24, 2003

Be surprised, everywhere you go !

The Plateau is very eclectic, (Rue Henri-Julien)
Only in Montreal will you see such a change from street to street. Each neighborhood should be discovered

Montrealers are passionate about their town, it's people and culture. Going there for a few days is enough to get a feel of the spirit of the city.

Montreal Neighbourhoods

All sorts of style

For those who like architecture, you will be served in Montreal. On this picture, you can see from left to right:a 100 year old stone building, a brick house from the early 20's, a renovated single house probably more than 100 yrs-old, a multi-appartment with an entrance that used to be for horses...it's like that all over the old part of town

One of the most famous, efficient and pro-active group to preserve the jewel of Montreal Architecture is Heritage Montreal. This group is always there to help owners of historical buildings to renovate their treasure or fight promoters whold rather raze a whole historical street to build a concrete building.

Heritage Montreal

Old, very old

Old Montreal is where I find the most interesting building, old houses from the 18th century, massive building from the early 1800's, French influence, English influence...and everything is well preserved...

Pros:"So diverse, culturally, architecturally !"
Cons:"none"
In A Nutshell:"I spend 6 years there and could never get to see everything, the city is in constant evolution"
