Quebec city is located on top of the cliffs of Cap Diamant. The city was discovered as a Iroquois site by Jacques Cartier, French Explorer, in 1534. Samuel de Champlain then founded Quebec City in 1608. The same site has been under siege for months by the British army until the ultimate battle of the Plaine d'Abraham where but the English army defeated the French and both sides lost their generals. Despite 100 years of British domination (until the Confederation of 1867) and a minority status in Canada for the last century, the province and it's capital have preserved its french culture which you can notice in every aspects of the inhabitants life. It's very high location overlooking the St-Laurent river made it very well protected from the surrounding.
