San Jose is the capital of Silicon Valley. It has a bigger population than San Francisco and goes form the SF Bay all the way south between the two rows of mountains that form the valley.
The region has a strong population of Latinos that populated the region for centuries. In the recent 30-40 years, a large group of Indians and Chinese have also migrated here.
Nowadays, the office inoccupancy has reached 30% while the rates were the highest in the US 3 years ago. Unemployement has also tripled.
The region still has some of the richest towns in the US and the wealth of it's residents has not disappeared ! |

Survivors: For those who still have a job, life is still happy, million-dollar houses are being built all over and castles like the one on the picture don't stay on the market for long.
Where? Follow Highway 101 or 280 from Belmont to San Jose. Silicon Valley also include Milpitas and Fremont on its East part.
Fun Fact: The region probably has the most movie theater per capita in the US. I found that there is not much to do there beside watching movie and eating in restaurant. Quite surprising when you think that 2 million people are in SV.
Fact: To see the life of the rich and famous, stroll through the streets of Hillsborough, Woodside, Atherton, Los Altos, Saratoga, Monte Sereno and Los Gatos...the high tech downturn is invisible there... |
