Getting TO/AROUND: Whenever I drive into Manhattan from NJ I take the GWB. I prefer it to the Lincoln or Holland Tunnels, hands down! You get access the bridge from many major highways, including 95, 80 and Rt 4. It will put you at the northern tip of the island and you can make your way downtown via the Henry Hudson Parkway which runs down the western coast.

    Taxis: New York Cabs

Getting TO/AROUND: Riding in a cab has always been a kind of luxury for me. Usually my feet are either killing me or I'm just too exhausted to manuver through the subway system. But there are always cabs around, sometimes it seems like there are no other cars, just a sea of yellow vehicles. A ride in a New York Taxi is often quite an adventure. Depending on your driver, you can find yourself in an odd smelling, strangely decorated car zipping through the streets and maybe even hopping a curb in the process. NY cabbies are notorious for their crazy driving, but not to worry you'll get where you need to go in one piece.....

I guess I'm a bit like you Amy - I visited so often on business that I never really had time to look around properly! However, I agree with Lou - Times Square is a 'must see'! Very helpful tips here for my next 'tourist' visit!!

Very informative NYC page, Amy. The Big Apple has become one of my favorite places in the last couple of years. I can't wait for my next visit. : )
