Go over to Valley of Fire if you can, just an hour or so away and it's incredible!!! There are so many breathtaking views. Red rock canyons and stone formations, not to mention Anasazi petroglyphs set against a perfect blue sky. Rent a car (we rented a jeep it was perfect!) and take the drive out, you'll be happy you did. if you don't want to rent a car, there are also bus tours that go there from Vegas.
I also have a page on this location if you'd like to see more pictures and more info.

We had our rental jeep and we drove out to Hoover Dam. It was quite someting to see. Afterwards, we went to Arizona to explore a bit and came across this little place called Willow Beach Harbor where we rented a speed boat. It's located on the Colorado river below the Dam. You can drive your boat almost up to the dam through these great canyons, very cool!

There are quite a few off roading trails around Lake Mead, we took our Jeep around to explore them. We were the only ones in the area and since it was about 115 degrees F, we found a perfect secluded spot for a skinny dip! :D

Red Rock Canyon is a beautiful Desert state park that's not to be missed. It's located only about a half hour from Vegas. Beautiful mountains and canyons to explore. There is also a chance you might see some Big Horn Sheep! It has a loop drive that you can take with stopping points where you can get out and hike a bit. We rented a car, so we drove, but there are tons of tours that will take you there as well.

One of the Modern Wonders of the World, The Hoover Dam is the largest Dam ever built. We drove to the Hoover Dam and spent some time walking on and around it. It is very impressive. We did not do the tour that goes inside the dam, but I have heard it is quite interesting, if you like that kind of thing... We didn't go because we wanted to explore the area more. We ended up renting a boat further down the river which was a better way to spend the afternoon if you ask me:)

GuthrieColin Fri Apr 4, 2008 23:32 UTC Amy, nice work on this page. I may be headed to LV in May. I think that I would be more interested in the "Off the Beaten Path" sights than the city itself. | canadiantravelgirl Thu Jun 7, 2007 15:46 UTC Great ideas!! My husband and I are heading to LV this fall and we are really looking forward to the adventure. | Fra.da. Wed Sep 20, 2006 17:07 UTC Nevada is on my wish list....
