West India Goods Store - Salem

West India Goods Store

West India Goods Store: Interesting Wares

Not far from the water, the West India Goods Store used to be one of many stores in Salem that cariied goods from far and near. The store was built around the year 1800, and is now one of the last early stores in New England.
All of the items that they carry are somewhat representative of the wares they carried back in the day. A portion of the money from any purchases go to the national Park Service, Salem Maritime National Historic Site

What to buy: I bought a bag of loose chamomile tea for $1.25 and some peppermint molasses candy.

Down by the wharf - Salem
various: Down by the wharf

Down by the wharf there are a bunch of little touristy shops. Lots of little crafts, souveniers, an antique store, and on the way to the wharf a little new age store that sells crystals and whatnot. There are also a few resturants, this is where Finz is located, which is where we have gone for lunch on both of our trips to Salem.

What to buy: I picked up a citrine geode in the New Age store, and a Postcard in Salemdipity...

What to pay: Depends on what you buy, you can always hunt down a good deal

Ye Olde Pepper Companie - Salem

Ye Olde Pepper Companie

Ye Olde Pepper Companie: Delicious Candy

Ye Olde Pepper Companie is Americas oldest candy company dating back to the year 1806! The store has been featured on the food network, we had seen a special on their candy, the fudge in particular, and had to get a piece for oursleves. The store was packed! The little space was so crammed full you could hardly move. We made our way to the counter and ordered three types of Fudge, chocolate, white chocolate/walnut, and peanut butter cup. I waited outside while Lou paid and when he finally burst though the door he shouted "I have fudge!" I do believe he received a small cheer....

What to buy: There are lots of delicious candies to choose from, but I highly recomend trying the chocolate fudge
