  • My goodness no one told us of the Disneyland marketing fiasco that the Hopewell Rocks have become! Yikes! I mean the Rocks are beautiful and amazing but the set up for visitors left a little to be desired. I felt like a sheep following every other tourist down the trail to the stairs and to the rocks.
The Flowerpot rocks as they are called , are interesting formations that have been eroded by the mighty tide of the Bay of Fundy. They turn into little islands with tufts of greenery on their heads at high tide. At low tide you can walk amongst them on the ocean floor.
The trail down to the rocks is a little long and steep, but if you are out of shape you can get carted to and from by a little glorified golf cart. It will cost you $1.25 (one way) to do so. There are a few lookoff points, we found that only the main one was really crowded, if you go down past the Low Tide Cafe towards the kayak rentals there are a few lookoffs that were practically empty, save a very nice park ranger.

Things To Do: Kayaking amongst the Hopewell Rocks

  • Oh, how I wished we had done this! Alas, we didn't have time this trip, but hopefully we will return one day and we can get a chance to go.
The guided kayak tours last about 2 hours. No experience is required, they will give you an on site lesson. The kayaks are 2 seaters, so you have a buddy helping with the paddling.!
Don't miss it, regrets are awful things to have.

Things To Do: Fundy National Park

  • I thought this park was just beautiful. It has such a variety of scenery, from beaches to waterfall trails to large lakes and mountains, even covered bridges. Be sure to get a schedual for all of the talks the rangers give. There is a nightime walk that books up pretty fast, only 20 people allowed in, so be sure to book well in advance. We were disappointed to have missed it.

Things To Do: Dickson Falls Trail In Fundy Nat'l Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • Dickson Falls Trail is a quick 1.5km trail that will take you up and down wooden staircase and pathways along Dickson Brook and to the falls. We were able to squeeze in this little hike just as the sun was setting. There was just enough light to get to the falls take some photos and scramble back to the car. The sunlight as it set cast a rosy glow through the canopy down into the rushing water. It was magically beautiful.

Things To Do: Covered Bridge over Point Wolfe River
  • Tip Rating:
  • Province of New Brunswick - Point Wolfe Covered Bridge

  • We tried to squeeze in a visit to Point Wolfe before the sun had completely set, but we got caught up taking photos of this lovely covered bridge on the way there. It's definately worth a stop at the lookout, to take in the great scenery of the bridge and the river as it makes its way through the mountains and empties into the sea.
There are some ruinous remains of what used to be a paper mill still in the river, just the bare bones of the collapsed building. An informative plaque at the lookoff will give you a little history on the area.

Things To Do: Bennet Lake in Fundy National Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bennet Lake is supposed to be a prime spot for animal sightings, including beavers, frogs and yes, even moose! Best time to go looking for animals is in the evening and rent a canoe to silently glide around the lake, but rentals are available all day long. There is also a picnic and swimming area at the lake.

    Things To Do: Cape Enrage
  • Tip Rating:
  • On a very foggy morning we stopped by Cape Enrage on our way from Fundy Park to the Hopewell Rocks. A student run area, they ask for a donation, $3 per person requested, to explore the area near the lighthouse and the beach. There is a VERY steep staircase down to the beach, vertigo sufferers beware! The beach is not at all sandy but covered with rocks and boulders and shale. The craggy cliffs are magnificent though they dwarf the lighthouse into a miniscule little building.

A restaurant and a little gift shop are also located here.

    Things To Do: Alma
  • Tip Rating:
  • Alma is a cute little town just outside Fundy National park. A good place to get camping supplies, have a great meal,( try the Tides restaurant,) and see the effects of the mighty Bay of Fundy. It's amazing to see the boats tethered to the dock, but sitting on the ocean floor, then return and see them bobbing alongside.
