General Tips: The Lighthouse Challenge!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Once a year there is a weekend adventure called the NJ Lighthouse Challenge. The challenge is to visit all of New Jersey's eleven lighthouses in just 2 days. All of the lighthouses are open to the public o these days. Some of them usually are not, so it's a great chance to see the interior of a lighthouse that on a regular day you could not.
Each site had it's own special souvenier card. When you collect all 11, you can present your collection at any lighthouse to receive a special "11 points of light" commemorative card.
Maryland also has a similiar lighthouse challenge. If you complete BOTH cahallenges, you will recieve an additional special souvenier.

General Tips: The Beach in Autumn
  • Tip Rating:
  • New Jersey - driftwood on the beach

  • Favorite Thing: Going to the beach is autumn is an entirely different experience than going during the busy summer season. The crowds have all gone home, the wide expanse of sand, once full, is now almost empty giving you plenty of space to spread out and just enjoy the scenery in relative silence, save the sounds of the crashing waves. The weather is still warm enough to sit in the sun, maybe not in a bathing suit, but comfortable in light clothing. The water is also warm enough to put your toes in, maybe the brave will go for a swim, it's just cold when you get out.

Fondest Memory: Finding an abandoned beach chair left over from someone's summer outing, plunking down and relaxing., with my toes in the sand.

I really enjoyed your NJ page. I grew up in Old Bridge, but now only visit once a year. I have never been to these off the beaten trek places. I am ready to explore next time I am in town! thanks

Really helpful page Amy. We're trying to decide where to stop over between Cape May and Newark in Sept and you've given me some excellent ideas.

Great page on New Jersey! As a fellow resident of the Garden State, I can certainly appreciate your tips and photos. I especially like the photo of the billboard advertising Tom Jones in Atlantic City. Best regards from NJ, Bill
