Barcelona!

by kazander - last update: Apr 12, 2004

Only a week in beautiful BCN. We tried to pack as much into it as possible while still relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere. Our 1st day we arrived in the afternoon, was spent sorting out hotel problems and wandering Las Ramblas, Placa Reial and The Barri Gotic. Our 2nd was sorting out more hotel problems, our 1st place was a disaster! Then we explored Exaimple and Gaudi's genius works. Strolling Passaig de Gracia and visiting Casa Battlo and hanging out on the roof of La Pedrera then heading over to Sagrada Familia. Later in the evening we returned for some night shots of Casa Battlo. The 3rd day we hiked up to Parc Guell and spent much of the day there. We tried to go to Tibidabo, but the funicular was closed. We caught a cab and checked out Port Vell and The columbus Monument and then visited Las Ramblas again as we walked back to our hotel. The 4th day was our great adventure to Figueres to see the Dali museum. The 5th day we tried to visit the Picasso museum only to find that most of the collection was in Brooklyn! We then returned to the Barri Gotic to explore and see the Catedral. 6th day. The Palau de la Musica a few markets and Parc Miro.
7th day the airport. And I haven't even mentioned any nightlife!;)

I loved Placa Reial. Usually you hear so many warnings and not nearly enough expressions of how lovely it is!

No a la guerra!

It was very strange to be abroad while the war broke out. Suddenly I felt that perhaps I was an unwelcome guest. But it was not true, the lovely people of Barcelona were as hospitable as always. There were so many protests, but all were very peaceful when I was there.

Wonderful tips, I fell in love with Spain over 30 years ago and have been a frequent visitor.

Your Park Guell tip was featured when I logged on today and I do find Gaudi's work appealing in a whimiscal way.
