Clam Diggers Beach House and Restaurant: Amazing food, amazing view

Clam Diggers is a new restaurant (2008). It's located in the east coast town of Georgetown, Prince Edward Island and is in a rebuilt train station overlooking the mouth of a river just emptying into the Georgetown harbour. They have two sections to the restaurant, a casual "beach house" and a more formal dining room. There are also plans to have a private dining area available for parties of up to 12 in a loft over the main dining room. The website shows two menus but we ate on the Beach House side and the menu was a combination of both.

The seafood is fresh and impeccably cooked. They also do steak, chicken and pork chops as well as lobster dinners. They have soup and salads and sandwiches. Their soups are homemade and the chowder is very tasty.

I'll admit it. I'm not objective. My cousin owns the restaurant! The photos were taken in the early morning when we were treated to breakfast though the restaurant isn't open for business until lunch. That's why the dining rooms are empty! Even so, I wouldn't praise the restaurant if it wasn't worth it. It is!

Favorite Dish: I had the Clam Digger platter, a seafood platter with clams, scallops and fish. A large plate full! Their fish and chips is really good, too.

Address: 7 West Street, Georgetown PEI

Comparison: about average

Directions: Driving into town, nearly to the harbour, turn right on Water STreet and follow it to the end. You'll see the restaurant on the waterfront.

Fisherman's Wharf: Lobster and more

Fisherman's Wharf in North Rustico on the North Shore has two sides to the restaurant and a gift shop (don't they all have gift shops?). One side is more pubby, a family restaurant, and has a regular menu featuring lots of seafood as well as sandwiches, burgers and pasta as well as breakfast menu items. The other side caters to the crowds coming to PEI for Lobster suppers, a huge room full of tables, a 60 foot salad bar and view over the harbour. Be aware that bus tours will be stopping here for the lobster suppers, but you can also order lobster in the family restaurant. The large salad bar will include chowder, mussels, fruit, desserts, ice cream. I found the prices a bit high but the food was very good. We ate in the family restaurant which was quiet, low lit, with friendly staff.

Favorite Dish: We had a lovely bowl of seafood chowder and i had a plate of mussels.
Lobster, of course, is their specialty, at market prices.
Cost for lunch, bowl of chowder and a plate of mussels was about 10US, but prices will be higher for entrees.

In Stanley Bridge - Prince Edward Island
Carr's Wharfside Market and Oyster Bar: In Stanley Bridge

Carr's has a nice casual restaurant, decorated mainly in wood with a nautical theme. It overlooks the bay and you can watch the fishing boats come and go. We also saw a bald eagle fly past!

Their specialty is Oysters but they do lots of different seafoods and also some nice wraps and salads and pasta. Also in the same building is an aquarium.

Favorite Dish: Had some really fresh fish in the fish and chips and the few desserts on the menu were all amazingly good! We had a rum and raisin bread pudding.
