This hotel was recommended by a friend who said it was reasonable for rates and right by a metro station. They have internet rates (70 - 90 euro for a twin or double) that also include a continental breakfast. Can accomodate families up to 4 in a room. Hotel has 33 rooms, lift, breakfast room, 24 hour reception and concierge services. All rooms have bath or shower, television, phone and mini safe. Will update further should we decide to stay here. It seems a nice place.

Just off Rue Lafayette between two Metro stops (Cadet and Poissonniere), about a 10 minute walk from Gare du Nord. This is a 6 floor townhouse style hotel with 24 rooms. It is another one of the hotels we are considering staying at in November 2007. The hotel is getting very good reviews on Trip Advisor. Good location, good price, friendly staff. Price about 90 - 110 Euros per room per night.
Unique Qualities: Good location, on a quiet street off a main thoroughfare. Just steps to two metro stops.

A friend stayed here in the past and recommended it and it has pretty good reviews on Tripadvisor.com. Right in the heart of the left bank, on the corner of Rue de Seine and Blvd. St. Germain and between two metro stops. Has singles, doubles and twins. Reasonable rates, small rooms and bathrooms but that's typical. In the middle of the Latin Quarter and student area so should be able to get reasonable food. Can walk to many major attractions. Our room was a double, and though small, we could get around the bed. There was also a small dresser and desk with two chairs and a small wardrobe. Bathroom small but adequate. We did look at a slightly larger room though it had two single beds together and the bathroom was bigger, with a tub and hand held shower but we stayed with our original assignment for the double bed and shower. We didn't take breakfast at the hotel, we ate in local cafes. Blvd St. Germain has lots of places but go down Rue de Seine to Rue Buci and the side streets in that area, lots of little places in there as well from boulangeries to proper restaurants and all in between.
Unique Qualities: small tv in room, telephone, tiny elevator... *very* tiny. Not much bigger than a closet. Two people with hand luggage *just* fit. Breakfast not included. No air conditioning so probably a bit warm in summer. Price 92 - 102 Euros per night for a double (2007)

Address: 66, rue de Seine, Metro Odeon is a couple of blocks away
Directions: We took the RER B from CDG to Gare du Nord and took line 4 (i think) to Odeon. come out of the station and keep going in the direction you're facing as you come up. It's on the corner across the road, about 2 or 3 blocks away

Hotel Victoria Chatelet: Hotel in the First Arr.

Another small hotel, just four storeys, located in the First Arr. a few blocks from the Louvre and nearly on the river across from Ile de la Cite. This hotel's rooms have cable tv and a safe and are en suite with either bath or shower. Close to les Halles and Chatelet which is a major transportation hub (though the tunnels and walks can be lengthy to get from one area to another). You can have a continental breakfast (for a fee) in your room if you like but Rue de Rivoli is handy enough to find a cafe in the morning. We've not stayed here but it was recommended to us by a friend who has used it in the past.
Unique Qualities: Excellent location, right by the river and across from Notre Dame and the Left Bank, steps from the Louvre. Rates are reasonable. Doesn't seem to be online booking on their website, but you can fill out a form online for reservation inquiries and they will get back to you by email.
