My first visit to Paris was on a school trip in 1977. We arrived in Paris on a Sunday afternoon on the overnight train from Rome. We left Paris on the overnight train to Nice on Tuesday night. We were only there long enough to get a city tour and see a little bit of it on our own. I really wanted to go back again someday as i knew i would have a far better appreciation for it now. For example, the first place us students headed for when we arrived was... McDonald's! Yuck! And it was, as i remember, pretty awful too. My memories are fading but i did manage to write up a travelogue. I will be adding to this page soon. Fast forward to November 2007 and I finally returned to the City of Lights to celebrate a milestone birthday (my fiance's, not mine) |
| | Planning This year, the trip was again just three days and i made list upon list of things we'd like to do and see. We didn't get nearly as many things checked off those lists as i thought but i think now it was a bit overly ambitious. We did quite well just the same. Just our luck, there was a Paris transport strike that had been ongoing from the week before and on the Tuesday we were there, a general strike added into the mix. Still, it didn't seem to impede us *too* much and a bonus was that all the transport was free! We walked a good deal and my feet were blistered and aching, a sign of a good trip! The hotel we picked was good, and it was convenient. Weather could have been better, we only had one out of the three days where the sun shone but it didn't rain more than a sprinkle or so. It was just grey and dreary the other two days mainly. |

| | We did get to the Louvre for an abbreviated visit. We saw the Dali exhibition in Montmartre and were inside Sacre Coeur and Notre Dame. We took a nighttime boat ride on the Seine and visited the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe at night as well. And walked. A lot. We really enjoyed ourselves and I'd love to go back to Paris again and spend more time walking and seeing a few of the museums and neighbourhoods we didn't manage to get to. |

Thanks for stopping by my Paris page - I do hope you get to go back this year, and I'm sure you'll manage to avoid going to McDonald's this time around! Take care, Isa :o) | tarced Wed Aug 17, 2005 22:05 UTC I hope you've had the chance to go to Paris more recently! When I take my students there, I always hope that they will return since they can't see too much in two or three days. |
