If you go to Rome, you must make the short trip by bus or subway to the Vatican. Rich in history, both artfully and architecturally spectacular, this is one "Do not miss." Michaelangelo's dome and Pieta' are just the tip of the iceburg.

If you went to Rome and didn't see the Coliseum, well, I just don't know what you were thinking... At 8 euro a pop, the interior visit must be made at least once. If you're so inclined, cozy up to a guide already giving a tour. Or, cough up the extra euro for an audio guide. The views are amazing enough, but hearing details about the Coliseum (80 years of slaughter and staged naval battles to name a few) makes the experience more complete.

Built in the 18th Century for Pope Clement XII to serve as the Romans' main sources of drinking water, the Trevi Fountain is now just a tourist attraction. Toss a coin in the fountian to ensure your eventual return to Rome, but don't turn around to see where it lands or your wish won't come true!

Less romantic than it sounds, "Piazza di Spagna" was named as such simply because the Spanish Consolate occupies one end of the square. Great (albeit expensive) shops radiate off the piazza on pretty pedestrian-only streets. Grab a bottle of wine and enjoy an apertivo on the steps while getting serendaded by local guitarists.
