Vicenza is famous for a few things, most of which are not known outside of Italy.
(The Duomo is the green building in the middle of the panorama shot). |
| | La Rotonda First and foremost, Vicenza was the home of architect Andrea Palladio (1508-1580). Many of Vicenza's villas and buildings were designed by him, including the Teatro Olympico and Villa Rotunda.
The view of La Rotunda at night is gorgeous...and a family still lives there! |
| | Me-OW! The second thing Vicenza is known for is being a town of "Cat Eaters." Legend has it that during years of famine, the starving population of Vicenza turned on their feline friends for sustinence.
Although you won't find cat on the menu these days, you will find an ample amount of "cavallo" (horse) in most restaurants and supermarkets. |

| Pros: | "small-town feel, stunning architecture" | | Cons: | "Not a lot of non-architecture tourist attractions." | | In A Nutshell: | "A nice place to live, not really to visit." |
