After reading nothing but horrible reviews of the hostels in Paris, we decided to book a * hotel where at least we'd enjoy our own bathroom for $23/night.
The room was alright, but again it had its own bathroom (which is huge for a one-star). The staircase was daunting, so we always opted for the elevator to the 7th floor!
The staff is friendly enough, but don't expect a lot of tourist information (or English) like you'd be able to get at a hostel.
Unique Qualities: In the Les Halles quarter, our hotel was surrounded by tons of fun pubs and restaurants. Oh, and also by a lot of sex shops and piercing palors which just added to the kitchiness. A really fun area at all times of the day!
