A friend of mine told me that he was once riding the tube, and got out of a train at Moorgate during the afternoon - the station was relatively empty and he was approached by a well-dressed African man claiming to have been robbed earlier, and who was late for a flight at Stanstead. He asked for money from my friend. The man even offered to show a ticket to my friend, but my friend didn't closely look at it, and took out his wallet, and handed over what little money he had - which made the well-dressed mad angry who wanted more. Nothing really came of it, because my friend just ended up leaving the man, (minus his money).
But I think people should be aware of scams that occur like this. it could be genuine, but the least someone can do if faced with this situation is to closely inspect the ticket or whatever corroborative evidence a scammer offers. Also, try not to be in an empty station alone.
