Konya is a historic city, located in Anatolia, about 12 hours from Istanbul. It's most famous resident was Rumi, the world-famous poet and mystic. Thats not to say that Rumi's tomb is the only thing in Konya, there are a lot of other interesting sites, and the people here are very nice, displaying the famous Turkish hospitality.
Historically, Konya is significant because it contains buildings pre-dating the Ottomans - as it was the capital of the Seljuks, so there are some mosques and monuments here older than any Islamic monuments in Istanbul. |
