The City of the Prophet

by Digi - last update: Jun 20, 2003

Madinah is the second holiest city in Islam, and where the Prophet Muhammed rests. The city has gone through many different name changes, but has been known as Madinah since the time of the Prophet, and has been known since then as the "City of the Prophet" since he emigrated here, and it later served as the capital for the early Islamic empires.

Today, the biggest attraction in Madinah is the Mosque of the Prophet, the original structure was actually built by Muhammed, and he lies within, flanked by his friends Omar and Abu Bakr. There are also other historic mosques across the city including Masjid Quba, the first mosque of Islam.

Madinah is smaller than Mecca, but has a lot to see. I would say that there is more to see in Madinah actually since more old buildings are still standing. Many people also find Madinah to be more relaxed than Mecca, and the people to be friendlier. Whatever the case, Madinah is a city that is hard to forget.

This is not only an Arab thing- actually a good reason! see we dont if after the 1st salaam Imam is going to peform sajda sahw (for missed waajib act) therefore you wait after the 1st salaam and then make 2nd salaam hope that helps :)
