"Wildcat Mountain State Park, peaceful beauty" Wildcat Mountain State Park by 850prc

Anytime is great, but fall is the best

Wildcat Mountain State Park, located some 40 miles east of La Crosse, Wisconsin (near a small area called Ontario, Wisconsin) is a great place to spend a fall afternoon. The leaves will be a multitude of colors and the fall air will be crisp and cool. Nothing like a nice afternoon hike to set you ready to enjoy a Heileman's "Old Style" beer upon returning to your hotel or inn.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Peace, beauty, and wilderness.
  • Cons:Unless you love hiking, camping or the outdoors, it's not for you.
  • In a nutshell:Another relatively unknown gem in America's system of state and national parks

Hi Pete, can you believe I used to live quite close to here but never checked out the park? That wouldn't happen now! I do miss the foliage in Wis. this time of year : )

The picture of Bonnie is beautiful. This State Park does look like my kind of place.

I, too, was unaware of this park. It does seem romantic and peaceful. Lovely memories for you and your wife. Your descriptions are wonderful.

I've never heard of this park but it sounds wonderful! There are so many unknown parks, I wish people would discover them more! I am currently doing a lot of hikes in the Canadian Provincial Parks and I am having a great time, so many beautiful places!
