A nice selection of Quilts for cool Maine evenings
The Aroma Floria shop had an extensive inventory of locally crafted items of interest and use for sale.
Among the things that caught my eye were the lovely quilts. There was a multitude of colors and patterns available, and they seemed to be of a very nice quality. Are these hand-made heirlooms? NO. But, they're very nice general use quilts for a cozy bedroom or den area.
What to buy: Lots of items for sale, as I say. I'd suggest looking at the quilts.
The store's business card advertises "quilts, soaps, gifts and home decor".
What to pay: Depending on the style, color and size, you'll pay $40 - $125 or so.
Address: 15 Ocean Avenue, Kennebunkport, ME 04046
Directions: From Dock Square, walk east on Ocean Drive for about 100 feet. You'll then turn into a side street, where you can find Aroma Floria on the right.

Interior, Carrots and Company, Kennebunkport
This is another of the many gift shops in the village of Kennebunkport. They all have a lot of the same types of items, but each also has its own unique attitude about things.
Carrots and Company seems to be all about laughs and fun. They're into humor, magic and quirky items. Their business card has the slogan "gifts, accessories and laughter", and includes the basic tenets "enchant, delight, indultge and surprise". This honestly sums this interesting and entertaining little shop up. There is a sign over the cash register that reads "wishes granted here". :) Fun place.....do stop in!
What to buy: They have a plethora of interesting and quirky items. We bought a book, "The Pessimest's Guide to Life", which was hilarious.
Also, I bought two Halloween cards. Witches using "Spell Check" (get it?) was my favorite.
What to pay: Depends on what you buy. Carrots and Company have a lot of nice little gift items for well under $20.
Address: 19 Ocean Avenue, Kennebunkport 04046
Directions: From Dock Square, walk about a block down Ocean Drive. Carrots and Company is on the right, heading out of Kennebunkport.

Kennebunkport Book Port, near Dock Square
The Kennebunkport Book Port is a very nice book shop located at Dock Square. (It's actually upstairs and on the backside of a building....follow the signs)
There are a few places inside to sit and read, but it's not really a library. There is a good selection of reading material in this snug little shop.
The book store is open every single day, according to their business card. They also state that they ship books or other items anywhere. AND TALKING ABOUT CHARM....the bookstore is housed in the loft of an old rum warehouse. There's bound to be a few pirate ghosts hanging around the bookshelves in the back!
What to buy: Books, CDs, calenders and other literary-themed items.
My wife always likes to buy ghost stories or local legend-type books. The Kennebunkport Book Port had a nice selection of these type books. My wife bought one particularly good one called "Ghosts on the Coast of Maine". Get yourself a candle and the Copper Candle (see tip), a warm quilt at Aroma Floria (see tip), and a bottle of wine at HB Provisions (see tip). Snuggle up with a ghost stories book and hope for a foggy and windy night. That, my friends, is atmosphere.
What to pay: Varies. Hardcover books are generally under $50, some are much cheaper.
Address: Dock Square, Kennebunkport, ME
Directions: Right at Dock Square. BUT, remember, the shop is at the back of a building and is upstairs. Look for the signs and follow....

Cottage Collectibles Christmas Ornaments
Cottage Collectibles is what I'd like to call a little "knick knack" shop. They have lots of small craft items, many of which would fall into the genre of small Christmas ornaments, etc.
The special part of Cottage Collectibles are the people who own and run it, the Field family. We met Marie and Michelle, and there apparently is another family member, Kitty Field, involved. You couldn't find nicer or friendlier people. AND, Michelle and Kitty are apparently "the artists" involved in much of the craft work, and they'll happily and immediately personalize any ornament or item that you choose, at no additional charge.
I always appreciate extra-friendly service, and people who truly enjoy being in business. The Fields are the types of people I like doing business with. Go say hello.
Do notice that the shop is only open IN Kennebunkport during the May - October time period. After that, you can procure items via the alternate phone number listed below.
What to buy: We bought several Christmas ornaments, which Michelle lovingly and artistically personalized on the spot.
What to pay: Generally, the items for sale are < $20.
Address: Union Sq, A-4, PO Box 369 Kennebunkport
Directions: From Dock Square, head east. Union Street and Union Square will be off to your left. The Cottage Collectibles shop is in the middle of this tiny town "mall", Union Square. Look upstairs.

Shoot the Moon is another pleasant art and craft gallery located right at Dock Square in Kennebunkport.
Although I have no picture, and didn't make any purchases, I remember their selection to be of decent quality, and there were many interesting items for sale.
What to buy: Artistic and craft-type items made locally, and throughout New England.
What to pay: The overall price range of stuff at Shoot the Moon was generally < $100.
Address: PO Box 1382, Dock Square, Kennebunkport, ME
Directions: Right at Dock Square.

Christmas goodies at the Copper Candle
Basically, the Copper Candle is a gift shop, with a collection of well-made and pleasant items. This is not a junk store. : )
I specifically remember quite a few Christmas-themed items for sale.
.....and of course, they sell lots and lots of candles. This is one of those shops that smells wonderful.
What to buy: Candles, Christmas items, etc.
For what it's worth, the Copper Candle claims to be "Maines Largest and Most Complete Candle Store".
What to pay: Depends on the item. Generally, you can buy a nice candle or Christmas item for under $20 or so.
Note, if you pick up a (free) copy of a local map of Kennebunkport (on one side) and Wells, ME (on the other side), there is a coupon that will get you 10% off at the Copper Candle. The map is published by resortmaps.com
Address: 10 Dock Square, PO Box 460 C, Kennebunkport
Directions: Right at Dock Square, the center of town.

good food, good eats, good gracious, let's eat
The HB Provisions shop is basically a small grocery, deli, bakery and sandwich-type shop just over in lower Kennebunk. We visited in search of wine and cheese, which we planned to enjoy after an afternoon romp in our Roman hot-tub. (see 1802 Inn Travelogue photos...) HB had an excellent selection of wines and cheeses, along with lots of snack items...cookies, chips, crackers, popcorn, etc. Their little deli appeared to be clean, and had some nice bakery items for sale.
Like everywhere in the Kennebunks that we visited, the staff was friendly and helpful, and seemed to be truly happy to have us visiting their area.
What to buy: Basically, this is a good place to get whatever food items you'd want or need during a stay in the area. It serves the purpose of a convenience store back home, but it does so with a charm and grace that is typically Kennebunk.
Very good selection of quality wines, and the prices aren't bad. We bought two nice Merlots and got out for under $30.
What to pay: Decent wines, $8 - $35 or so per bottle. Good quality cheese and dairy products at basically average deli prices. All in all, a good place for food items in the area.
Address: 10 Western Avernue, Village of Lower Kennebunk
Directions: Just before the bridge heading into Kennebunkport on Western Avenue. Facing north (towards the inlet and Kennebunkport), the Provision shop is on the left. There is a small free parking lot adjacent.

Gibrans Giftship, Kennebunkport
Gibrans is a quality gift shop, located right at Dock Square in Kennebunkport.
Among its inventory, you can find a great selection of nice sweatshirts and clothing themed by the Kennebunks.
Also, many items of a nautical nature are available, such as ships in bottles, anchors, buoys, etc.
The owner of the shop is Marc Gibran.
What to buy: I liked the ships in a bottle, and I bought a very nice heavy, long-sleeved sweatshirt with Kennebunkport on the chest. They had a lot of nice pastel colors that didn't see to be prevalent in other shops.
What to pay: My sweatshirt was about $30. The ship in a bottle was $20 or so. I saw a guy buy a decorative anchor for about $40.
Address: Ocean Ave, at Dock Square (PO Box 1157)
Directions: On the north side of Dock Square, just across from the "Ocean Drive" road marker.

The Emporium Giftshop, Kennebunkport
The Emporium is a very nice gift shop in the center of Kennebunkport. Among the special items available are nice collections of crystal, miniatures and those Hummel figurines that so many people love.
What to buy: Crystals, jewelry, miniatures, etc.
What to pay: Varies depending on what you'd like. Some of the crystal and figurines were pretty pricey (>$100 or so), but they appeared to be of fine quality.
Address: 50 Dock Square, at the bridge
Directions: From Dock Square, head south towards the bridge. The last shop on the left, before the bridge, is the Emporium.

Saxony Gift Shop, Kennebunkport
The Saxony is another decent giftshop along Western Avenue in downtown Kennebunkport, just off Dock Square.
In addition to many items found throughout the area, the Saxony has a nice collection of crystal and china items and miniatures.
What to buy: All sorts of local items and "treasures".
Address: Western Avenue, Kennebunkport
Directions: From Dock Square, walk south towards lower Kennebunk. Saxony gift shop is on the left side of the road, BEFORE you cross the bridge. (It's in Kennebunkport)
