Feranandina Beach has a long and rich history. This is not one of those "t-shirt shop and porno" type of beach towns that litter other parts of Florida. (You KNOW who I'm talking about, don't you DAYTONA BEACH??)
After a quiet day at the beach or in the surf, Fernandina is a civilized and quiet little town where you'll find edible food served at a reasonable price. It's nice to have a beach town where you don't feel the need to shower after a stroll down main street.
Discover Fernandina Beach, northeast Florida's great little secret.
The first and best part of the Fernandina Beach area is that the beaches are uncrowded and quiet. This also means that the beaches remain somewhat of the natural barrier and wonder that they were meant to be. This is a place where you'll find more sea oats than footprints.
Fernandina Beach is not a highly populated beach destination. Take a look at this June 2000 photo and count the people you see on the beach.
THAT's reason enough to choose Fernandina Beach for a nice weekend.
- Pros:Fernandina is quiet, unspoiled, and restful
- Cons:If you're looking to party, keep heading south.
- In a nutshell:Like the title says.....it's MY kind of beach town.

Thanks for the comment. I am so happy you left it as it led me to your Fernadina Beach tips. Excellent! My type of place. Jill
On our drive to Ft. Lauderdale, we made a stop on Amelia Island to have lunch with our daughter-in-law's parents - very nice.
How have they managed to keep such a beautiful beach a secret? I missed this one, and would have enjoyed it. Looks like you had a really neat trip. BTW...there is a lighthouse in RI that does B&B. When ya comin up?
I grew up in Jacksonville and we had friends in Fernandina Beach and Callahan. Thanks for the memories.
My kind of beach too :~)
This looks like the kind of beach where we need to spend Christmas Day with our turkey picnic lunch and walking the beach.
A Union fort in Florida during the American civil war! I never knew there was such a thing. I'm from Illinois, so I could have helped you out with some nice things to say about President Lincoln, in case you were at a loss, LOL.
I agree about F.B. being a neat beach town! I haven't been since maybe 94 or so. Good info on your page.
I have a good friend from Fernandina and your tips make me want to visit her very soon. Fort Clinch looks like fun! Great tips - I'll be sure to omit the fact that I was born in Texas. (And you probably thought I was just a California gal!)
Birthday greetings and page ratings coming your way. Hope your day was wonderful.
