"Beautiful, but way out in the boonies!" Twin Lakes by 850prc

Twin Lakes Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 3 photos

Not much here, really....just BEAUTY

Twin Lakes, Colorado is not much more than a little spot on the road to Colorado Springs. The hamlet lies just to the east of the 12,000+ foot Independence Pass on US highway 24, (which runs from Buena Vista, CO to Colorado Springs, CO and then east).

There is a lovely lake, or more correctly...a pair of lakes, hence Twin Lakes. Apparently, there are some outlets for fishing and boating, but again....there's not much here.

I build the page primarily for two reasons.
(1) EVERY little town deserves a place on VT, and..

(2)There IS a great and funky little cafe in Twin Lakes that I highly recommend. (See tip)

The Cafe that we enjoyed in Twin Lakes

I've written a specific restaurant tip for "The Windspirit Cafe" in Twin Lakes. This is the reason that we stopped in the tiny town. Please see my tip for more detailed info.

Just taking an opportunity to post another photo. We all love pictures on VT, right?

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:It's SOMEWHERE to stop after an hour on Independence Pass
  • Cons:Other than a bit to eat, and perhaps some petrol....not much else you'll find here.
  • In a nutshell:A nice little hour break from driving

What a beautiful spot, and so remote! It look like it's one of those types of days when it’s so still that you can hear a voice miles away. I wonder if anyone can hear you. .

Believe it or not, I camped at Twin Lakes for three days about 15 years ago. Missed the restaurant when I was there. Looking forward to the rest of your new Colorado pages.

Pete, What a delight. That intro photo is mighty fine! You are correct. The little cafe sounds wonderful. You do a concise, precise job with your introduction and tip. Thanks.

It is always great when you stumble across some special little place in the middle of nowhere! Nice scenery too!
