Germany, my home away from home

Munich and Bavaria, my favorite part

The Neues Rathaus, Marienplatz, Munich
I feel very comfortable in Germany, as I have some functionality in the German language. I've enjoyed myself all over the country, having first visited in 1983. I even visited the now-defunct "DDR" on that 1983 trip.

But, my favorite part of Germany is Bavaria, and its lively capital, Munich. Munich is everything that you think of when you say Germany, especially those terrific beer halls!

I don't like huge crowds, so I've never tried visiting during Oktoberfest. I like to go right after the big show is over....the people are gone, but there's still plenty of beer and decent weather!

All Together Now

Since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Empire, Germany is again reunified. The once-mysterious east offers many new areas for many-time visitors to Germany to explore for the first time.

We are condemned to repeat the past if we don't learn from it, so now is a great opportunity to learn about the lands of the Ost.

Fun in Alt Deutschland

The spirit of Germany is so conducive to having a good time. Every town has it's beergardens, large and small. There always seems to be time for a song and a smile.

This is really a great place to go to forget your troubles, folks. Any two weeks spent in alt Deutschland is bound to improve your outlook.

Just take a cab after a night on the town. : )

Pros:"Clean, organized, basically friendly. I love the food and the atmosphere."
Cons:"If you drive yourself, you'd better pay attention....Things happen fast on the autobahn!"
In A Nutshell:"Familiar enough to be comfortable. Enough difference to confirm you're not at home anymore!"
