Let me begin by saying that I love turbulence. While other passengers shriek and gasp, I smile at the uncertainty and helplessness involved in air travel. It also helps me appreciate my destination that much more when I touch ground. The flight into St. Lucia was a rollercoaster and I loved every minute of it. However upon landing I found that my bag was missing, and ten days later (back in Toronto), it is still yet to be found. Tripping St. Lucia in another man's clothes was quite an experience. Everyone I met was friendly, though too many were motivated by U.S. greenbacks (mostly drug dealers). I only truly felt like myself though, hiking through the Rainforest underbrush and climbing the rocky Atlantic coastline. St. Lucia has a biodiversity that is unparalelled in the Caribbean. They have a profitable banana exporting industry and overall, the quality of life for Lucians seems much higher than that of some of the neighbouring islands. The food is incredible, the people are so hospitable, and the geography is simply awesome. |
