Our Town of Putnam

Down town
Welcome to Putnam, Connecticut. Located in the scenic Northeast Corner of Connecticut, Putnam is the retail center for the neighboring communities of Pomfret, Eastford, Woodstock and Thompson, as well as many towns located just over the border in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Putnam is home to a thriving antique district. Over four hundred dealers are based in Putnam, attracting customers from Providence, Boston and New York City. Putnam is making a million dollar investment in its river front. A two mile multi-purpose pathway, the Putnam River Trail, will be open in the fall of 1997. The area's most noteworthy inhabitant (and the town of Putnam's namesake) was Colonel Israel Putnam, the commander of the revolutionary war Third Regiment. Israel Putnam was a participant in the Battle of Bunker Hill and also is credited for having shot the last remaining wolf in her den in Pomfret (the so-called Wolf Den, a cave, which can still be visited by foot in a State Forest by that name).
We have had celebraties of all kinds seen walking are streets, and many live in the surrounding areas....
It is a great place to raise children, lots of things to do , all of which depends on the season....

This page is not going to be just about Putnam, but will cover neighboring states as well, partly because so many things are only a short distance away..It will evolve into other pages in.time...

Boston-1.5 hrs
Cape Cod-1.5 hrs
Fall river 1 hr
Rock port Ma 2.5 hrs
And Many other places all within short driving distances..
