Monsoon! Just what on earth were we doing there??

Kijal is a small sleepy hollow by the coast of Terengganu, Peninsular Malaysia. Well, sleepy it is until the tourist season hits! I was there for a short getaway during the Raya Aidilfitri break. The Muslim New Year if I'm not getting it wrong, which is celebrated after the Ramadhan month of fasting.

Kijal was hardly known until some bigshot hotel chain opened the Awana Kijal Resort there which boasts a golf course & a hosts of other activities. Presumably 5star but I didn't feel so. Apparently it was much more luxurious & catered to the 'higher' class in the early days, but now had the feeling that it is much more family oriented & has become more like the hotels in Genting Highlands. Lots of people with yelling kids running around.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Quiet, sleepy hollow by the beach only if away from the resort
Cons:I'm not sure but I don't think there's any sort of accomodation besides the resort
In a nutshell:Decent but I think loses out to Beserah, Kuantan & the Perhentians

Hi there following in your footsteps an visiting Kijal in the monsoon, around Christmas. :-) probably end up visiting the KFC or famous Kopi O store and like you, cook at the apartment! maybe golf driving range? :-)) cheers and thanks for dropping by.

a grand opening on ur malaysia pages :-) if it were us during rains we would have been out all the time. we would have dried our clothes in rain too hehehe. in the uae u don't almost ever see rains, perhaps drizzles every 3-4 years.

sorry about the monsoon spoiling a lot of your holidays but I thought you liked to howl in the rain `-) those resort houses look nice actually!
