At least there is movement Well...if someone had told me that I'd be in (wait a minute...I started another paragraph somewhere like this)...never mind.
38 hours ago, I didn't think I'd be in the Middle East for more than 48 hours and then I get word we're on our way to Amman, Jordan to meet with a team going into Baghdad.
Some fool in Kuwait had told us that the drive from Amman to Baghdad was a mere couple of hours. Now, that would be true were we using a jet-propelled sled. But we're driving conventional equipment, thus it will take from 9 to 14 hours (or more if the Bedouin tribes are actively blocking the highway with AK-47's and trying to steal our gear). Then there are the holes in the highway from bombing, military checkpoints...little things like that.
We were told today that a Delta Force team controls the border between Jordan and Iraq. That's a good thing, but it leaves some 600 kilometers of uncontrolled territory and there is serious speculation that it's any better than a 50-50 shot that anyone crossing that area will be shot at.
I may not be able to add photos from here on due to the nature of things and it will get only worse. I will add more text though, whenever I have a moment and a work station.
