The Austrian National Soccer Team play their home matches at Vienna's "Ernst Happel Stadium" (named after a former player and coach of Austria).

I was there on Aug 18, 2004 to watch Austria play Germany in a friendly (which GER won 3-1), which was held in to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Austrian Soccer Federation(see http://www.oefb.at). It's a nice stadium with a capacity of about 50,000 spectators.

For this match, about 37,000 showed up and provided for a nice and in part very enthusiastic atmosphere. I liked it a lot and I do hope to return for one of their qualifying matches for the World Cup 2006.

The stadium will host matches during the European Soccer Championship 2008, which will be co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland.

The Ernst Happel Stadium is not far from the Prater amusement park. After having some fun at the park, you can follow the fans and walk up to the near-by stadium. (The wide camera lens used here puts the stadium more in the distance than it actually is. The picture was taken from inside a gondola of the Prater Giant Ferris Wheel on Aug 18, 2004.)
