  • I had always wanted to go and see Holland Park but had never made it up to this visit of London, despite having stayed close to the park several times, like in the nearby Kensington Hilton.
This time I was finally able to check out this recreational area during a training run on a late Saturday morning. The picture here shows the entrance to the park at Holland Park Avenue, i. e. entering it from the north. (No, that's not me in the picture!)
After getting through this gate, there's a steep way going up for about 100m, which serves the training purposes of the ambitious runner very well ;-) ...

  • A statue of Lord Holland in the upper section of the park. Judging by the name of the man, I must assume -- after most careful reflections -- that they named the park after him …

  • There'a a large meadow at Holland Park where people play soccer or rugby. In this picture here, a passionate coach teaches children how to perform in one-on-one situations. He seemed to be an excellent coach to me, in both his motivating the young players and in his teaching them how to do it tactically right at the same time ... Good job! I really liked his coaching style.

  • Broken glass bottles and a lot of waste-paper could be seen on that large and bumpy meadow. I certainly wouldn't want to play soccer on that kind of pitch ... So be careful when YOU do. These players here didn't mind much, it seemed.

  • What would a London visit be without attending a soccer match? Not much to me ... Your chances of getting tickets for Premierleague games on match days are slim, but maybe you would like to observe some "real" soccer instead? I got to see parts of the Sunday League bout between the "Fulham Hoops" and "FC London", which took place at Holland Park in front of maybe ten spectators. (No, you couldn't get a ticket. They didn't sell any ...)
Both teams showed the typical gung-ho attitude that many people still associate with English soccer. (And sorry -- I don't know how this match ended ...)

  • Holland Park has some really lovely places, like this terrace-like garden. I'll try to find out the name of that place soon ... It's located in the north-western part of the park.

  • London - Interesting Playground

  • If you are visiting Holland Park and have kids with you, you might like to stop by a large playground that has lots of great activity points for younger and older children. It is located in the north-western corner of the park. Be careful when taking pictures there, though. Someone called the police because I did. Yes, London does have its weird moments and ill-minded people, I must most unfortunately say ...
I'm still considering legal action to let this person know what it can mean to falsely accuse an innocent person, even if it was just a bloody, naive tourist (me, that is).

  • You might get to see some peacocks in Holland Park. This one here didn't like to spread its feathers, though, so you'll have to be content with this picture. Don't put the blame on me, it was the bird's laziness, O.K.?

Hello to another café-au-lait addict! Always a pleasure to see a drink enjoyed from a lovely ceramic cup instead of paper! :)

You have to really want to shop, or like to feel like you're in a herd of cattle, to go along Oxford St.! Next time, and there WILL be a next time, right?, check out Camden- it's the best!
