The steam engines' workshop

The workshop is open to public quite regularly, every first and third saturday each month - check the "contact" site (and my page/other tips) for more details! It is well worth a visit, even if you are not tha much into technical stuff... In the first september weekend there is always a special steam weekend with steam train runs, regular train services run by steam trains and a fair with miniature railways and other "railwayana".

The Adler replica steam engine, where the wheel is shown in this picture, was sadly destroyed by a fire in the Nurnberg railway museum in October 2005. It will be rebuilt, more on this scheme (and how you can help) on the following pages (in German):

The town itself and its surroundings

On my first visit the backalleys were still very much rundown, but especially in the centre a good job is being done, though I still hope it's not overdown and will keep it's "Eastern" charm.
The surrounding Th?ringer Wald to the East, and the Rh?n to the West also have a lot to offer, especially if you enjoy hiking!
