Winter in Fendels | View from above the village |
If you like a nice cosy village for wintersports (and summer hiking), Fendels is the place to be! A bit aside from the main resorts it has just the right amount of slopes, variations and nearby places of interest to vist to keep you busy. And even experienced skier keep returning there, because it's ... "somehow different there"! |

| | Information for wintervisitors Being situated rather in the centre of the Oetztal Alps, snow tends to be less than in surrounding, wellknown places as Serfaus (just across the valley), St. Anton or Ischgl. But somehow... there's always enough, and the mostly northfacing slopes and the very professional "grinding" keep the quality good, when others are having more snow but too much sun...

Summer walks The Oetztal Alps are also known for good (the best?) of mountain hiking. What I like about Fendels, is that it's just outside the "rushhour"-regions - great landscapes, maybe not the highest mountains, but fascinating views and good accessibility. To give you an idea of the region - both the Italian (Resia) and Swiss (Martina) border can be reached by car in half an hour, Innsbruck in 1 hour, and the famous "Koenigsschloesser" near Füssen, Germany in 1 hour and a half... Near Fendels are a few mountain huts that, rarely enough, are still self catering. The "Anton Renk Hütte" is our favourite, being still in its original , darktimbered, 1880s-style and posted on a ridge near a fabulous 200m drop with waterfall.... see the "off the beaten path" tip! And great walks from there over the Glockturm ridge into the Kaunertal - which has its summer skiing, maybe interesting for some, but a pain in the ass for the nature lover. Although, fair enough, the road up there by car, bus or... bicycle is worth the effort! | | |
