extremes abound here

To explore a living, breathing volcano is certainly a once in a lifetime experience. In one afternoon you can experience wind-swept desert, rain-forest full of fern trees and lava tubes, wide barren lava fields, and the newest rocks on the planet. To best experience this location try to stay in the park at Volcano House. They say that the fire in the fireplace here has been burning for over 100 years, and counting. The restaurant looks out over the Cauldera at the top of Kileua.
