What About Our Small Town? Wawa, means "land of the goose" which is an ojibway toungue. you can see many geese during summer here as well as plenty other wildlife in the area. It is a small town, with not much for businesses, but it is not a "hick" town in the least. many travel to and from Sault Ste Marie, the closest city, and follow the trends from there. There are about 2 major clothing outlets, 2 grocery stores, many convenience stores, way too many hotels to count, 4 or more bars and many restaurants. There are alot of activities during summer for all types of people - dances, clubs, camping, ect., and during fall and winter there are mainly activities like hunting, fishing, skiidoo trails and cross country skiing. Kids always have something to do - they spend thier time having coffee, going to a dance or at the local pool hall. The scenery is great and there are alot of private and not so private places to camp. it is a very scenic town - with lots too see. |
