My close girlfriend has her relatives in Chernivetska oblast, selo (village) Sloboda-Banyliv and Vyzhnytsya. I was invited by her to visit her family and celebrate great holiday in Ukraine – Easter which were on 27th of April. So we sat on the train and on morning arrived to Western Ukraine, another Ukrainian area which has many difference (history, customs, people) from other parts of Ukraine. |
This travel was very nice because I spent 3 days with kind and hospitable people, I saw local customs of celebrating religious holiday, saw Carpathian mountains and I dreamt about it for long time. I had time of enjoying with nature and people, getting to know about their life and stories. People are strong there, they saw a lot for their days and life now is not so easy now also, but they are high in spirit to struggle for every day. |
My travels:
Sloboda-Banyliv
where I celebrate Easter and saw many things which I never would have seen in big city, like preparation of basket to go to church, night religious service, different dishes.
Vyzhnytsya
is village near Carpathian mountains
Chernivtsi
small town with its small street, University, old buildings and many pizza restaurants. |

We are trying to visit where my grandmother was born in Vyznitzia - the busses and trains might be quite difficult, not to mention things like hotels and restaurants. Do you think an American family traveling through this area would be able to manage? | filipdebont Wed Jun 9, 2004 17:15 UTC
