Beware of land mines and suspect areas. We stopped at the military office in Stanley to pick up a land mine map first. I really think it is essential to have a map if you plan to go hiking on your own!

Volunteer Point King Penguin Colony / Adopt One !

Don't expect to see King Penguins at Gypsy Cove, it will take more than a day trip to get to Volunteer Point. I guess a lot of people are disappointed when they find out after arrival that Volunteer Point is more remote than they thought, so make sure to plan ahead for enough time.

An interesting mix of natural beauty and military

It was strange to see barbed wire poking out here and there, you really have to mind your step when hiking.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Slice of Britain in the South Atlantic + Penguins
Cons:Very Windy -- bring a good hat! Mind the land mines...
In a nutshell:The slice of Britain in the South Atlantic as a pro could also be seen as a con by many -- go with an open mind, learn as much as possible and come to your own conclusions
